Yaki, Silicon, Brazilian, indian, russian and all that jazz....

I know shop bought yaki hair goes a bit static after a few washes but it is cheap and cheerful for many who cannot afford virgin remy hair anyway. My take on it is that the benefit of REAL REMY hair is the re-usability, the long term investment and the cuticles. Straight Remy hair needs blending when used for permed hair textures as relaxed hair is coarser even its sikliest form compared to Brazlian remy or indian remy. Another thing also is that many clients prefer the yaki texture because it blends with their hair, even though many phone calls to me have claimed that they choose Brazilian hair because it looks more natural. This is highly disputable, just marketing. Hairs do not come with certificate of origin, Brazilian and Indian hair come in a variety of textures, most of which are silkier than Afro relaxed or coarser strands in general. In order for many remy hairs to match they are processed e.g. Bohyme french refined, hisandhers spanish mink, remy yaki i processes and not always can the cuticle be saved during this process. I have used both and all I can say is that extensions need blending always when hair is integrated with it , except for fullhead weaves when u need no blending. This is where I encourage investment in good quality re-usable remy hair for long term investment. But hair extensions is much more than long hair, some people get excited when the hair says brazilian and russian and indian and many times i have refused some hair because of natural frizziness or too many split ends, hence I buy from small supliers who actually hand pick and let me handpick before i buy. Coming back to the frizziness, if using a hair texture that is curly and happens to have some frizz and you own hair is the same you might as well buy that hair because it will match ur hair and a good silicon silkener or antifrizz will make it all better, just as with natural hair. So it is all about what suits and matches your texture better.

Reporting back to the Yaki issue which was the reason for thi post in the first place, it is so hard to find good quality yaki remy and good quality kinky curly hair. The reason why the yaki hair goes static is beacuse it is mass produced, it is fallen hair, has been acid washed to rid the cuticles thus saving time to try to re-align the natural direction and then it gets coated with silicon for shine and luster. What is wrong with this? Absolutely nothing most online hairs from major online suppliers of cheap hair extensions, wefts, pre-tipped, keratipped are silicon washed hence they shine and feel extremely silky at first touch, the blonde colours, the so called european weaves etc are silicon washed. So what to do if I cannot afford the Higher grade remy hair but do not want to loose the initial luster and shine the hair had when i bough it? If the hair is not for a long term investment(as Remy hair can last years!), It gets silicon washed again hence sometimes I do advice my clients not be in despair when their affordable weaves have gone static, any silicon solution will bring them shine and luster, keratin oils will bring the shine and luster.

So with yaki remy not always available and I know that kinky straight and permed remy need daily conditioning due to them being processed in order for them not to tangle, pre-tipped yaki for micro rings is also not readily available so my solution for the tight pockets who want to benefit from strand by strand extensions is this, Buy the remy yaki hair, get it pre-tipped and use silicon mix or any keratin oil based or silicon based products. So this is a cheaper alternative and at least u know is it not some fathom company telling you their yaki remy has all its cuticle aligned. Chemically speaking, it is almost impossible to retain the cuticel during the processing from silky hair to yaki. But hey yaki hair fits the permed texture so why give it up. there are many ways to make your budget work for you. So in synthesis Brazilian, Indian and Russian hair from reliable suppliers(many tel tales) will last you long, it is optimum of it suits your hair type and will rarely give you maintenance headache but for those who cannot afford it, processed hair can always be renewed to its luster exactly the same way those companies who sold it to you did it. Voila easy peezy! But I still recommend investing in REAL REMY hair for the long term

here are a list of products that are good for lustering up natural hair but also good for brining the shine back to you extensions:

-Avanti silicon mix
-baba de caracol
-keratin oil(amazing for straightening and conditioning)
-liquid silicon and collagen(many aromatherapy and soap supplying companies sell these)
-shea butter mixed liquid keratin
-africare glossing spray
-loreal professional(not the drugstore one)
-wella keratin oil

Keratin and collagen in cosmetic form not only softens the hair when used correctly, it eliminates frizz and makes curly hair manageable, stronger and gives it shine and luster.

I now pretip yaki extensions and kinky curly for strand by strand methods due to it not being readily available in the Uk and shipping costs can make ur pocket weep when they come from the states. So think with these solutions anyone would win.

I still stick to my small suppliers for Remy hair as I trust them but if you want good quality from online, extension plus and hisandhers are good companies I use from time to time, some lines are processed but still retain their strenght.
For kinky curly hair, "mulatto" curled hair, wavy hair and natural straight and all Indian and Brazilian and Russian remy you are welcome to buy from me and my trusted suppliers. they handpick theirs and are not reliant on some manufacturing company in China.

Next post will be on quality fibre hair extensions.

More about me: my "hairstory"

I modelled in my younger days and that is how I started getting into everything hair and general aesthetics, many stylists did not know what to do with my hair and hair extensions was nothing new so I showed a hair stylist one day how to put a weave on my hair and he let me work with him. At that time weaves and hair extensions was only available to the rich, hair systems specialists and very few “ethnic” circles. I worked with him and got extensive training in different industry methods. I know that in hair extensions,(I guarantee you) nothing is new under the sun that has not been tried yet, I have done workshops and training, I have used patented machines, bonds and have worked with industry’s systems, a humble experienced woman I am. The only thing I have learnt is are two, know what hair is made of, how it behaves and know the components of what you are using to extend. If you do not know the basis on hair extensions in general, it is very easy for someone to tell you amazing things about their particular systems. So I hope to educate, transform looks, enlighten, enhance, bless and be blessed by those with whom I encounter on my work journey as i grow and establish myself although I am quite happy where I love my niche clientele.

(I have travelled a bit around Europe and I have worked with hair for years, moreso I have studied hair, chemistry and herbalism and they seem to come in handy when I use products too! I do have a very rare appreciation for natural hair and I like for hair extensions to enhance natural hair and not damage or debilitate it, hence I make sure I inspect chemical products for hair extensions, especially the bonding glues and aftercare products.

I have had extensive training in strand by strand methods of extension, hair integration, weaves, afronatural textured hair, dreadlocks, braids, dreadlock extensions etc. Even if I do not do your hair, I can guarantee you that even a consultation leaves you with enough knowledge and information to never be fooled by no big names in the industry. Hair extensions and hair grooming is the oldest trade in the world!
